Highlight THAT!

Lauren Ernst

Be it your favorite passage in a novel, using a spotlight to showcase a dancer on stage or emphasizing gorgeous aspects of your face with makeup, taking time to highlight the things we love truly has an impact on the overall look and feel of any given situation.

When it comes to makeup, using specialized products to display our favorite features brings dimension and beauty to our every day. Highlighting your skin involves placing light-reflective products in areas where the sun would naturally hit. Not only does this process bring life and dimension to your face, but it also assists with making skin appear more dewy and hydrated.

Highlighting can be done on its own or paired with your usual makeup routine – personally, I enjoy highlighting my skin after I have applied foundation, bronzer and blush. Dusting a light reflective product on my skin adds dimension and shine to areas that may otherwise not appear overly lifelike.

My favorite go-to highlighter comes in a powder form and is created by MAC.

MAC’s mineralized skinfinish in Soft and Gentle is a lovely powder that glides on evenly, offers subtle shine and leaves your skin looking beautiful.

When it comes to ANY highlighter product, be it powder or liquid, a little goes a long way. If applied in excess, highlighter can often leave your skin looking sweaty. Instead, opt for a small contour brush or a fan brush to apply your product with precision. That way, your skin will look beautiful rather than sweaty. The more fluffy and small the brush the more natural the look. If your brush is too dense, it can often leave behind too much product on the skin.

Regardless of when you apply your highlight during your makeup routine, opt for the top of your cheekbones, your temples and down the bridge of your nose. This will offer a subtle shine, leaving your skin looking absolutely gorgeous. In time, your makeup routine will begin to include highlighting – ALWAYS.

All the best, BlaireBeauties! Give it a whirl and please let me know how things go! BB xo
